SITE NEWS:
EMPLOYMENT:

An applicant must complete a 500 yard swim and 1 mile run within 17 minutes. The swim must be completed within 10 minutes. *The remaining time is the difference an applicant has to complete the run.

The hiring process is competitive; hence, only applicants with the best combined swim and run times are hired. In addition to the these requirements, an applicant is subject to an interview with the Chief of Lifeguards.

Returning lifeguards must also re-test prior to each summer season. This is done to help ensure we maintain the quality and integrity of our organization.

An applicant must also be certified in CPR for the professional rescuer, first aid, and lifeguarding.

RECRUITMENT:

Lifeguards at Hampton Beach do not have a high turn over rate. Most lifeguards are employed for a minimum of 4-5 summers and there is a core group which has been there much longer. The reasons for this are we have an excellent work atmosphere and a rewarding job.

As a Hampton Beach Lifeguard you will start off each day in the best way possible - with a mandatory workout. (Refer to the "Daily Training" page.) You subsequently spend the rest of the day performing a variety of duties and interacting with the public. Serving the public in this capacity is an excellent way to spend the summer.
